Rum Cups

The Rum Cup was provided to soldiers and sailors by General George Washington, following the tradition of the Royal British Navy. Initially, the daily rum ration was 1 Gill (about 8 ounces). It was reduced to 1/2 Gill due to how it affected the men's abilities. Our cups indicate the 1/2 Gill line.
